THE MISSING DRESS
It was a gorgeous day in Hyrule. Link awoke from his bed and went outside. He opened his mail box to see a letter inside. The letter read: “To Link, Honorable Hero of Hyrule: If it pleases You, You have been summoned to the great feast to be held to-night in Hyrule Castle. Arrive no later than 5:30 p.m.”
Link was rather pleased and he thought to himself. “I do believe they will have dancing there. Won’t they? I would very much so enjoy asking Zelda to go with me!” Link began running along to the castle.
When Link arrived, he was rather out of breath. He went immediately to Zelda’s door. Link took a deep breath and waited at the door for several minutes. It was not until now that Link realized how terribly nervous he was about asking Zelda to the dance. He began knocking furiously at the door, for as you realize, his hands were shaking a good deal. Zelda finally opened the door and Link stopped shaking at once. Zelda looked rather troubled.
“Are you alright Zelda?” asked Link. Zelda frowned and let Link in. Zelda was not wearing her usual lovely pink dress, but an old, dingy blue dress.
“My good dress is gone.” explained Zelda, “I can’t go to the dance without it.” Link thought for several moments.
“Do you have any idea where I could find it?” asked Link. Zelda sighed.
“My guess is someone stole it.” She replied. “Some no-good thief that’s all.”
But Link wasn’t listening. He noticed some muddy splotches on the ground. Definitely not tracked in by himself.
“Hold up Zelda,” Said Link. “I’ve got a lead!”
Link began following the splotches on the ground. He came to Zelda’s bed. Link, upon looking beneath the bed noticed several boards on the floor. Link moved the boards and a neatly-cut tunnel was under them. Link, without thinking, threw himself into the hole. He fell for a long time. (Link later said that it felt like hours, but it was in fact only a second or two.) Link was relieved to splash into deep water.
“Not the sewers.” He said to himself. “It seems like a river!” Link now regretted his decision of blindly jumping into the tunnel. He had forgotten his sword! Link finally splashed up onto some dry ground. He felt along the walls until he came to a stone door. Link, without a second thought, threw open the door. He was rather relieved and frightened at the same time to find lit torches inside, lining the sides of a long hallway. Link began walking down the corridor and smiled when he found a sword hanging on the wall.
“Finally, I have something to fight with if need be!” Link said aloud, suddenly realizing a terrible mistake he had made. He no longer was hidden. Anyone could have heard him. Link gave a sigh of relief when nothing happened. He began walking again. Link took several steps and froze. Someone was following him.
Link spun around. A dark figure emerged from the shadows. It was, as you most likely have guessed, Ganondorf. Ganondorf let out a cold laugh.
“I figured you were looking for this.” He said, throwing Zelda’s familiar dress at Link. Ganondorf then drew a long, curved sword. Link realized that he should be pulling out his weapon also.
Link whipped out his sword and took a lightning-quick stab at Ganondorf. Link’s sword hit home. This is why Link was rather surprised to see that Ganondorf was unaffected by Link’s attack. Ganondorf then fell into a cloud of dust and landed in a pile on the floor.
“How incredibly odd.” Said Link. He checked to see if he still had Zelda’s dress and headed for the door. Once out at the side of the underground river again, Link noticed a point of light down-river. He followed the water until he found himself outside. Link took a look at his surroundings and found that he was only about half a mile from the castle.
Link went straight up to Zelda’s room. When Link stepped into the room he immediately realized that there was nobody in the room. Link then noticed a note crudely nailed the door. Link pulled the paper off the door and scrutinized it closely. The note read:
Took Zelda to the ‘dance’
~Ganondorf
“Oh, no!” cried Link. Link bolted out the door. He ran down the hall and saw a robed figure running away with a large, quivering sack. Link drew his sword and charged at the figure. Link now realized that the figure was the real Ganondorf as he got closer. Link smashed into Ganondorf with incredible force. This caused Ganondorf to lose his balance and topple out of a nearby window. Link then slashed open the sack and out popped Zelda.
“Are you alright Zelda?” Link asked. Zelda adjusted her hair a bit.
“I think so. Thanks a lot Link!” Zelda replied. “Did you get my dress?” Link nodded. He then produced the dress and held it in a triumphant manner. Zelda then took advantage of the situation and threw her arms around Link. She hugged him and said, “Thank you Link.” Zelda then finally let go of Link, blushed and smiled ruefully. “I guess I’ll go get changed.”
Finally when she was all done getting ready, Link and Zelda strolled over to where the dance was being held. They had a great deal of fun at the dance. They wouldn’t have though, if they knew who was lurking in the shadows…
